Events for 2010!

This summer we have many events scheduled and hope to have a good turnout for each of them. Last year our group raised an incredible amount of money for great causes and hopefully we can do the same (or better) in 2010!

The following events are being led by some our members and we hope to have a strong turnout for each of them.

The first big event is Bike 4 Betty, which takes place May 30th. It’s a great family event that was created by Kevin Wallace in memory of his Mother. Mitch Kennedy is leading this event. www.bike4betty.com

The next event is Tour de Blue, which is an event both sponsored and led by Peter Gilgan. This event takes place the weekend of Aug 6 - 8 in Muskoka. It is a first class weekend supporting a great cause. Peter hopes to raise $750,000 for William Osler Health Centre in Brampton this year. www.mattamyhomes.com/tourdebleu

The third event, which can be the most challenging is the Tour for Kids (you have the option of riding up to 800km in 4days!). It was founded by Jeff Rushton and it takes place August 19-22 on some of the most beautiful roads in Ontario. It supports children and their families in the battle against cancer. It is a very emotional weekend as many of these families share their stories with the riders. Ron Mitchell will be coordinating this event, so please contact him with any questions you may have. There is also a 3-day tour in July in Alberta - July 16 - 18. www.tourforkids.com

Other events that we have planned are the Philadelphia Road Race (Jun 4-6), Ride to Conquer Cancer (Jun 12-13), Tour de France Trip (Jul 17-26), UCI Pro Race in Quebec (Sept 10-12), Ride for Karen (Sept 12), Thanksgiving Day Ride in Collingwood and the Beaver Valley 180 (Oct 2010).

If you are looking for a weekly ride:

Mississauga

Saturday Morning Gears Rides have started (Gears Bike Shop - Mississauga Road and Lakeshore in Port Credit. 8:15 am start - we ride together for 45 minutes, then the whole group spits into smaller groups that have different distance/speed goals.

Downtown Toronto

Starting May 12th

Join Howard for a 90-minute ride (including a hill workout) at Brimley Road in Scarborough. If you are riding, feel free to meet at Howard's house at 2 Fernwood Park Ave.

Directions from downtown - travel east on Queen Street East 1.7 km past Woodbine Ave. Turn right on Balsam Ave, left on Fir St. and finally, right on Fernwood Park Ave. If you are riding from downtown, just follow the Martin Goodman trail, which ends in Howard's driveway. Alternatively, if you are driving, you can meet in the parking lot at the bottom of Brimley Road south of Kingston Road.

Meet at Howard's house for 6pm or at the parking lot at the bottom of Brimley Road at 6:30pm.

Les Domestiques have "member only" events, but also participate in many local charity rides. We've listed them below for the benefit of our membership. Sign up for these events through the events themselves. We hope to soon add the capability of checking which other Domestiques have signed up for these events so you'll have a ready made team to join!
